Duluth Firefighters Seek Generous Donations When Filling The Boot For MDA

Flickr User: Neurofibromatosis - Reggie Bibbs

I have worked for the MDA.  I know, first hand, how important our Firefighters are in the Northland.  Not only because they are first responders to our homes and families when we have an emergency, but because they pour their heart and soul into raising much needed funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.  They choose to raise money in a unique and fun way called “Fill The Boot”.

This will be their 58th year to “Fill-the-Boot” for MDA.  Look for them on street corners on August 7, 8, 9th asking for monetary donations to be dropped into a fire fighter’s boot, to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Here are the intersections in the City that you’ll find the Duluth Firefighters with their boots so that motorists can roll down their windows and donate to help local families affected by muscle disease that MDA serves.

• Central and Grand Avenues

• Central Entrance and Arlington Ave.

• Woodland Ave and Arrowhead Road

• 27th Ave. W. and Michigan

Fill-the-Boot is a tradition that began in 1954. Fire fighters across the country have joined forces and have collected coins and cash totaling more than $500 million. The Duluth Firefighters have raised over $100,000 during their annual Fill the Boot events since 2009.

MDA is a voluntary health agency that works in each local community to help children and adults who are affected by any of 42 neuromuscular diseases covered by MDA’s comprehensive medical services and research programs. MDA receives no government funding and charges no fees to those served by the Association. The programs are funded almost entirely by individual, private contributions.

Slow down for safety when you encounter a “Fill The Boot” intersection and be generous.  The Duluth Fire Fighters and Jerry’s kids, thank you!
