David Drew

I am Duluth, Minnesota born and raised.  Early on I was fed only organic foods, having only the finest oils ritualistically  applied to my skin......once I realized I was being raised for either trade or consumption I quickly found a new, more stable home environment -- but still in Duluth! My only surviving schools are Grant Elementary (Go Grizzlies!) and UMD (Go Bulldogs!), having attended both Washington Junior HS (Go artsty apartment building!) and Duluth Central HS (Go...Condos?! ).  After a brief move to Minneapolis after college, I came back to the area I love and have been here ever since. I grew up in radio, with my dad programing WGGR and later doing The David John & Granny Show for WDSM.  My first job in radio was in college with John Michaels and a fun crew at KZIO, where I learned a lot, and I have stayed in it ever since. Working with the amazing staff at B105 is only topped by all the cool listeners I get to meet along the way.  Now a few things about me...
Pet Peeve: People who create drama for attention....chill.
Favorite Drink:  Depends on the mood, but lately been trying different rums.  I also love Tequila and trying different seasonal microbrews.
Favorite Movie: I am a HUGE movie buff so this is impossible.  A few all time favorites are JAWS, Field Of Dreams, Almost Famous and City Slickers.
Who I'd like to meet: I grew up secretly listening to Steve Martin stand up (my mom thought I was too young, she was probably right) and loved his energy and insanity.  It, for better or worse, shaped my sense of humor.  I'd love to meet him -- oh, and Meagan Fox or Reese Witherspoon.
Hobbies: I love summer sports like softball and volleyball.  Although I don't think I'm a runner, I have run 9 Gary Bjorklund Half Marathons and every Gobble Gallop 5k so I guess it's a hobby.  In the fall I bowl a little—even managed to bowl a 300 game, much to my surprise. I also swear at the TV on Sundays in the Fall (Fantasy Football).
Favorite Country Artists: Where do I start? Keith Urban and Brad Paisley are two favorites as I appreciate their guitar skills and song writing. I also have to mention Lady Antebellum not just because they are talented, but because we shared drinks in Memphis and they were very cool --and picked up the tab!

Duluth School Board to Decide On Open Lunch Period Option for High Schools; Here’s How They Should Vote [OPINION]

The Duluth School Board was supposed to vote this week on whether Duluth high schools should have an open or closed lunch period.  They ended up deciding to wait on this topic until next month at least.  Open lunch would allow students to leave the campus during lunch periods to get food, stop home, etc.  Having graduated from Duluth Central High School, who did have open lunch, my mind is made up on this topic.
