Carrie Underwood Doesn’t Care About Fancy Cars and Multiple Mansions
If there were any doubts about how down-to-earth Carrie Underwood is, they’ve been put to rest after her interview in the May issue of Glamour magazine. Underwood looks dashing on the magazine’s cover, donning a peachy-orange dress and giving the camera a playful smile. But inside the spread, the gorgeous country star reveals that despite her major success, she’s still just like ‘real people.’
Underwood is arguably the most successful ‘American Idol’ winner to date, but she insists that being a celebrity doesn’t detract from the authenticity of her songs. In the interview, Glamour asked Underwood if it’s possible to write a great country song about being rich and famous. The country songstress cited her working-class background as the influence that keeps her grounded and able to relate to real people.
“…Country music is for real people. I think it would be very hard to write about my Louboutins. Do you know what I mean?” she answered. “My giant house, it’s not relatable. But my husband came from a small town and hardworking parents like I did, and I don’t think we’ve lost that mindset. We don’t have a bowling alley in our basement. We don’t have houses on the beach and one in New York and one in L.A. I drive a three-year-old Ford Escape Hybrid. We don’t care about stuff like that.”
The ‘Good Girl’ singer is married to Mike Fisher, a Nashville Predators hockey player who is famous in his own right and isn’t affected by her celeb status. Underwood says that he knew what he was getting into when he married her.
“In Canada he was a big celebrity, so he knows what it’s like living under a microscope,” she says. “And he travels a lot, which is good for both of us. We’re both independent people.”
Underwood might not care about fancy cars and gigantic houses, but she admitted that she once spent $2,000 on a sweatshirt in Paris — on accident.
“I was in Paris and went into one of those big, name-brand, fancy-schmancy designers, and I picked up a sweatshirt,” she confessed. “Maybe I didn’t understand the price tag. I’m really bad with numbers. But when I went to check out, that sucker was $2,000.”
