Flooding Causes More Roads in the Northland to Close; Get List Of Closed Roads Here

On top of the winter-like weather expect through the Northland into Thursday afternoon, there is also a Flood Advisory for much of the area into Friday morning.  With existing snow melting, St. Louis County had to close even more roads due to flooding.

Duluth Road Construction Alert! Along Chester Creek Drive

Clean up and repair continue across the Northland since our devastating flood on June 20.  See flood pictures .  Trails, bridges and roadways were impassable and/or gone all together.  We were already  seeking alternative routes to work,  child care, to almost everywhere due to our regular season of construction.  Now, there are additional roadways that work has started on and you should be aware to save time and frustration.

President Obama Declares Northern Minnesota Disaster Area; Opens Door To Federal Aid [VIDEO]

While it was anticipated, it's good to finally get official word that President Obama has declared 13 counties in Minnesota as well as three tribal reservations a federal disaster area.  This opens the door to federal aid for Aitkin, Carlton, Cook, Crow Wing, Dakota, Goodhue, Kandiyohi, Lake, Meeker, Pine, Rice, Sibley and St. Louis counties as well as the Fond du Lac Tribal Nation, the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe and the Grand Portage Tribal Nation.

Duluth May Launch New Ad Campaign To Re-Build Image Following Flood. What Should Ads Say?

Seeing how tourism is crucial to the economy of Duluth, it would make sense to spend money on a tourism ad campaign since people across the country last saw us as a flooded mess.  Our partners at the Northland's News Center are reporting that the City Council will vote Monday night on whether to allow community leaders to allocate up to $75,000 to the city's tourism arm "Visit Duluth" from the tourism tax fund.

Governor Dayton Makes Formal Request For Flood Aid And Announces Special Session

After seeing firsthand the flood damage in the Northland, and after FEMA visited our area as well, Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton has has sent his recommendation for federal disaster relief to President Obama today.

Only Highway 210 In Jay Cooke State Park Remains Inaccessible In Northeastern Minnesota

For many, a long road to recovery remains in place following Northland flooding.  While it is a daunting task, each day can bring a little progress.  We received word from The Minnesota Department Of Transportation that more roads that had been closed are becoming passable once again.  According to their press release:

Four highways remain closed in Northeastern Minnesota after last week’s storm that caused massive flooding. Three of the four closed highways have short detours in place.
