Duluth Police Issue Travel Warning Ahead Of President Biden Visit

Recently, Democratic U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin and Republican U.S. House Rep. Pete Stauber announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation is awarding a roughly $1 billion grant to rebuild the Blatnik Bridge, which connects Duluth to Superior.

In conjunction with that announcement, it was also announced this week that President Joe Biden would be visiting Superior on Thursday, January 25 as the $1 billion grant was made available through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

The White House says the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law invests over $300 billion in repairing and rebuilding America’s roads and bridges, which is the largest investment since President Eisenhower’s investment in the interstate highway system. They add that nearly $400 billion in funding and over 40,000 projects across 4,500 communities will be made possible through Bidenomics and President Biden’s Investing in America agenda.

Multiple sources are reporting that while in Superior, President Biden will talk about how his “Bidenomics and Investing in America Agenda are rebuilding our infrastructure, lowering costs, spurring a small business boom, and creating good-paying jobs.”

Although his Northland visit will ultimately bring him to Superior, he will be flying into the Duluth International Airport before being transported to Wisconsin. With that in mind, the Duluth Police Department issued a travel warning on Wednesday.

Tomorrow, Thursday, January 25, those traveling in the City of Duluth may experience significant delays. If you encounter closed streets, marked vehicles, cones, and other barriers, please remain behind them until such time they are removed, and be respectful and courteous of these closures.
The Duluth Police Department wants to extend our appreciation to the public for being aware of their surroundings, putting down distractions, and being courteous of others, as delays are expected to occur.

This will be Joe Biden's second visit to Superior as president. He came to the city in March 2022 to highlight the benefits of the landmark infrastructure law.
