The City of Superior will be holding its first open house meeting on February 27 to discuss a reconstruction project in the East End neighborhood.

The city is planning to reconstruct E 5th Street between 24th Ave E and 31st Ave E in the summer of 2025. The section has degraded over the years because of its age and poor drainage.

Currently, the plans are to excavate and replace the roadway fully. The pedestrian facilities will be completely replaced. A new drainage system will be used to extend the life of the reconstructed roadway. Utility work will also be a part of the project.

The city stresses environmental stewardship, such as protecting trees and being sensitive to impervious surfaces. Funding for the project comes from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation's local road improvement program.

A second public meeting will take place again in the summer of 2024. Construction is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2025.
