Cathy Kates

Hi y'all, thanks for checking out my bio! I grew up in the country community of Wrenshall, attended church in Carlton and worked in Cloquet. I adore and respect my family. My husband and I laugh and run together (well, I jog). My daughter is in her second year of college and keeps me young and our dog Bauer is an overactive Schnauzer. I love shoes, Asian food, and trying new recipes. My dream (at the moment) is to be on the Big Bang Theory or the Ellen Show. I have been in broadcasting for 16 years and thank you for your friendship and waking up to laugh with Ken, me and the Breakfast Club. ~Peace, Love & Hugs

Easy Apple Turnover Tastes Like Pie

I've made this easy Apple Turnover several times because an apple pie is just to big for a household of two.  This is the perfect size, is easy to make and tastes just like apple pie.  My friend Sandy shared the recipe with me years ago and I just rediscovered it in a pile of recipes shoved in a drawer.

Your Disgusting Habits Just Might Be Considered Normal

My original plan was to ask Chris Allen (Ken Hayes was on vacation or he would have been my victim)  if he had any of these disgusting habits to throw him in front of the bus.  But, as I started to run down the list of habits, I had to admit that I too am guilty of a lot of them.  I found out I'm icky and need to do some major cleaning up of my act!

Volunteer Fire Departments In The Northland Are Short On Volunteers

According to WDIO.com the rural fire departments in our area are experiencing a shortage of volunteers.  Actually, they have volunteers, but only a few can be really be counted on to show up when needed.  Then, additional volunteer departments need to be called in and that leaves their township without a crew.  What can be done to solve this growing problem?  Is it possible that volunteer fire departments will soon be a thing of the past?  Who would someone living in the rural areas call with a medical emergency or a fire?

Tedious Spritz Cookie Making Is Made Easier With Cathy Kates’ Spritz Chips

Circle slash cookie press!  I had to find a better way to maximize time and efforts when it comes to making Spritz.  It's my husband's favorite Christmas cookie (besides one that looks super involved and I'll continue to let his sister make).  So, I experimented and it worked!  Same great taste, no frustration and one happy husband!

HELP! My New Doors Look Horrible With Cheesy Plugs [SEE What I Mean]

Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful that we got the new doors.  We actually purchased them about two years ago, but because my husband has been doing "projects" for other people our home has always been put on hold.  I was SO excited when he began the install!  I asked what the little plastic baggie of white pieces were and was shocked to hear what I was suppose to do with them.

The Generosity Of The Community And Chub Lake Tree Farm Makes Me Proud

I grew up on County Road 3 in Wrenshall.  Technically I lived on what I called the border, because the kids on the other side of the street went to Carlton and I went to Wrenshall.  It was cool to have friends in both schools.  I was only about two miles from the Chub Lake Tree Farm, it didn't appear until after I had moved to Duluth.

Earlier in Fall we told you of local coat drives, the Salvation Army was asking for yarn and people who knew how to knit and the firefighters actually slept outside to raise money to buy warm jackets.  The need in the Northland continues and the state of Wisconsin has started "The Big Bundle Up".

Duluth Public Library – Remodel Or Rebuild?

Do you know how old the Duluth Public Library is?  Only 35 year old, I was shocked!  Of course with a building of that age there are concerns about how energy efficient it is and there have been laws that force the building to comply with.  SO, spend $35 or $15 million?  What do you think?  Do you utilize our public library?

Do You Have Information On The Duluth Police Department’s Property Crimes Person of The Week

Quite often I will get a press release from the Duluth Police Department asking for help locating the Property Crimes Person of the Week.  Since there's power in numbers I thought I'd share with you and it's worked great.  Together we've helped the DPD apprehend several suspects.  Let's see if we can help this week.
