Cathy Kates

I'm a Northland girl, born in Cloquet, raised in Wrenshall, and currently living in Duluth. I consider myself lucky to have been able to share my mornings laughing with you for the past 20 years. It's like audio Facebook. I make new friends, but I keep up with old friends too. I set three alarms to get up at 3:10am to do my job, then nap in the afternoon! I am a self-proclaimed multi-tasker (FYI: I am writing my bio, eating breakfast, holding three texting conversations and contemplating what I'll be having for lunch and what to make for dinner ALL right this second). I can't sit still. I even wear a head lamp at campfires so I can cross stitch at the same time. I love puppies, (especially my Schnauzer, Bauer), hot buttered movie theater popcorn, soup, the smell of a lake (especially if I’m fishing in it) and warm fuzzy blankets. I’m a lover, not a fighter, and yes it’s true, I get my hair cut on a weekly basis. I appreciate that you wake up with the B105 Breakfast Club, read and share my blogs and most of all, your friendship through the years! Peace, love and hugs!

The William A Irvin Haunted Ship Is Looking For 2016 Actors And Actresses

It's anticipated by many every year, the William A. Irvin Haunted Ship.  My friend Dave is the actor coordinator (involved for last 16 years and has coordinated the actors for the last 11 and he's just an all around great guy!).  They are looking for volunteers to act (aka: scare), improve (aka: scare) and SCARE the thrill seekers and there's an incentive plan!  Do you have what it takes to be ghoulish?

Darren Danielson of WDIO and I were blessed to be involved as co-chairs in the 9th Annual UDAC fundraiser "walk a mile in our shoes" event last Saturday.  It was a glorious morning for an event that is so well received in the community.  It was held at Malosky Stadium on the UMD Campus and several of the Bulldog's athletic teams and the UMD Marching Band were on hand to lend their support.

It’ll Be Slow Go Before No Go Northbound On The Blatnik Bridge Starting Wednesday

Last Thursday I traveled from Duluth to the Nemadji Golf Course in South Superior for a cross country meet.  Since the Blatnik was closed from Duluth to Superior and the Bong was ridiculously busy, I drove the few miles to use the Oliver Bridge.  I shook my head when I saw the sign that said the Oliver Bridge was also going to be closed.  Regardless, the construction, bridge inspections and repairs continue.  Here's what changing.

Are You Frugal? I Sew Monkeys.

I'm not totally frugal about everything, but for some reason I felt the need to start saving the dog toy monkeys that Bauer the Schnauzer has chewed holes in.  After 8 monkeys, a hedge hog and the worm started taking up too much space in the craft room, I decided it was time to open the sewing kit and repair.  Oh, one thing, I can't sew.

Solon Springs Firefighters Climb At Lambeau Field To Support National Fallen Firefighters Foundation [VIDEO]

Jonathan Brostowitz and his family have listened to B105 since I started in 1996.  That's how I met him when he was a young boy with big dreams.  He has always been kind and compassionate and he took those qualities into his career of firefighting and now to support the fallen firefighters of our National 9/11 tragedy.  An additional Solon Spring Firefighter and local resident will be climbing at Lambeau Field with Jonathan in a very moving, symbolic event in full gear.  Here's why.

Cathy Kates Is Honored To Co-Chair Walk A Mile In Our Shoes To Benefit STEPS [VIDEO]

Ken and I were involved in the annual UDAC fundraiser "walk a mile in our shoes" event years ago.  That was when we would go to STEPS and walk on treadmills. The event is so well received in the community that something needed to be done to accommodate, so it was moved to Malosky Stadium on the UMD Campus and the Bulldogs athletic department has become a big part of the the 9th annual walk this year.
