Cathy Kates

Hi y'all, thanks for checking out my bio! I grew up in the country community of Wrenshall, attended church in Carlton and worked in Cloquet. I adore and respect my family. My husband and I laugh and run together (well, I jog). My daughter is in her second year of college and keeps me young and our dog Bauer is an overactive Schnauzer. I love shoes, Asian food, and trying new recipes. My dream (at the moment) is to be on the Big Bang Theory or the Ellen Show. I have been in broadcasting for 16 years and thank you for your friendship and waking up to laugh with Ken, me and the Breakfast Club. ~Peace, Love & Hugs

Is There Aerial Lift Bridge Etiquette? Did I Deserve To Be Yelled At By The Bridge Operator?

I do not claim to be a Duluth native know-it-all, but I do want to be treated with respect.  Especially because the bridge operator didn't know if I was a local or a tourist and HE WAS RUDE!  I admit, I am unaware of any Aerial Lift Bridge etiquette, but I am willing to be schooled.  Who can help me to avoid sarcasm from the bridge operator again?

City Of Duluth Loads Up On Road Salt For The Winter, Guess How Much

While cleaning the camper this weekend to "put it up for the winter", I found a pair of mittens that I had been left there since Grandma's Marathon William A Irvin 5K in June.  Yes, in JUNE!  We are now into September and there is definitely a Fall feeling in the air.  The City of Duluth has already begun to think of winter and began to make decisions and purchases as we prepare for winter driving.

City of Duluth Fire Department Issues Dangerous Swimming Warning

It's Labor Day Weekend.  For many that means one last chance to go to the cabin, go camping, or spend some time on the beach before we get into the Fall grind of school, college, becoming chauffeur to our kids and their activities. (although the weather this weekend has been less than co operable).  For those choosing the beach option, the conditions have worsened due to the wind and that has prompted the Duluth Fire Department to issue a Red Flag Warning.

Fantastic Idea! Clothing That Repels Insects

This year the mosquito were ridiculous!  I know, I know, we had a late winter, more snow and that lead to a wet Spring.  Mosquitoes hatch their babies in water, therefore we had an abundance of the little blood suckers.  One family in Minnesota feels our pain and has come up with a great idea for those that aren't going to let the little pests keep us inside.

Duluth Citizens “Step Up” And Join The Lakewalk Task Force

Our city's beautiful Lakewalk is many things to many people.  For some it's a morning walk with the view of a calm lake.  For others, it's a place they can bring their pets for exercise.  Speaking of exercise, it's a place for people to job, run, ride bike and roller blade.  Other will remember their wedding photos taken there or falling in love walking hand in hand....ok, now I'm getting cheesy, but my point is if you've enjoyed the Lakewalk for whatever reason the City of Duluth needs your input.
