Cathy Kates

Hi y'all, thanks for checking out my bio! I grew up in the country community of Wrenshall, attended church in Carlton and worked in Cloquet. I adore and respect my family. My husband and I laugh and run together (well, I jog). My daughter is in her final year of college and keeps me young and our dog Bauer is an overactive Schnauzer. (he keeps me on my toes!) I love shoes, Asian food, and trying new recipes. My dream (at the moment) is to be on the Big Bang Theory or the Ellen Show. I have been in broadcasting for 18 years and thank you for your friendship and waking up to laugh with Ken, me and the Breakfast Club. ~Peace, Love & Hugs

The Generosity Of The Community And Chub Lake Tree Farm Makes Me Proud

I grew up on County Road 3 in Wrenshall.  Technically I lived on what I called the border, because the kids on the other side of the street went to Carlton and I went to Wrenshall.  It was cool to have friends in both schools.  I was only about two miles from the Chub Lake Tree Farm, it didn't appear until after I had moved to Duluth.

“The Big Bundle Up” Wisconsin’s Plea For Warm Winter Clothing

Earlier in Fall we told you of local coat drives, the Salvation Army was asking for yarn and people who knew how to knit and the firefighters actually slept outside to raise money to buy warm jackets.  The need in the Northland continues and the state of Wisconsin has started "The Big Bundle Up".

Duluth Public Library – Remodel Or Rebuild?

Do you know how old the Duluth Public Library is?  Only 35 year old, I was shocked!  Of course with a building of that age there are concerns about how energy efficient it is and there have been laws that force the building to comply with.  SO, spend $35 or $15 million?  What do you think?  Do you utilize our public library?

Do You Have Information On The Duluth Police Department’s Property Crimes Person of The Week

Quite often I will get a press release from the Duluth Police Department asking for help locating the Property Crimes Person of the Week.  Since there's power in numbers I thought I'd share with you and it's worked great.  Together we've helped the DPD apprehend several suspects.  Let's see if we can help this week.

New City Of Duluth Dog Park Has Tails Waggin’

Tails of Northland canines are wagging!  There's a new park in town just for them! (Human's welcome too, somebody has to drive!)  It took over 500 hours of volunteer's service to make the new dog park a reality. My Schnauzer Bauer and I personally thank those volunteers.

Superior’s Salvation Army Hopes To Step Up Donations To Reach 2014 Christmas Goal

When I have been out shopping in the Northland the past couple of weeks I've noticed several of the Salvation Army's Red Kettles in place, but stand alone, without a bell ringer.  There's no attention-getting sound or someone with a "Happy Holidays" to draw attention or entice you to drop in your change or a spare buck or two.  This may be one reason they are falling short of their 2014 Christmas goal.

Kylee And I Made Super Easy Eye-Pleasing Christmas Bark

Since my husband and I volunteer on Thanksgiving Day, we celebrate with our dinner on Wednesday.  While our meal was cooking I wanted to have a "little project" for my daughter Kylee and I to do together.  I knew she was going to her grandma's the next day so I thought a sweet treat might be good to make so she could contribute to the meal too.

Thanksgiving Day Buffet Celebrates 25th Anniversary With #Give25More

I have had the honor of being on the Thanksgiving Day Buffet committee for 17 of the 25 years of it's existence. It started back in 1989 in Superior and has since moved to the DECC and serves 6,500 delicious meals.  It takes hundreds of volunteers to make it happen and on this historic year we're asking for 25 more.  I'll explain....

My Husband Reverts To Childhood, HAS To Have Oops! All Berries Cap’n Crunch

My husband and I were grocery shopping together this past weekend.  I only turned my back for a minute and BAM! an unidentified object lands in the cart.  "It's not on the list" I say.  He replies, "I haven't had this since I was a kid.  I just HAVE to have it!".  Now he knows what it feels like when I find a pair of cute shoes I have to buy!
