Cathy Kates

I have been working in the broadcasting industry in Northland radio for 16 years. My life has been an "open-book", sharing trials, tribulations and every day life experiences, because YOU are my friends. I have compassion for people and animals. That has lead me to be involved with many different non-profit agencies on a local and national level. I am a board member for the Northern Light's Foundation, an organization that grants money to families with children who have cancer or a catastrophic disease. For the past 13 years I have been on the Thanksgiving Day Buffet Committee, responsible for feeding over 3,000 needy families in the Northland, a full Thanksgiving meal at the local Convention Center. I don't limit my involvement to large non-profit organizations, I also attend the home-town meatball and spaghetti dinners and benefits. That's where my connection grows stronger with you on a face-to-face level, and we become family. I am also the Public Affairs Director for Townsquare Media, so if you have a benefit or non-profit event you would like on our Community Calendar, make sure to email me the information. Thanks for waking up with me every morning, I'm always here for you......always a phone call, or an email away.  Hugs!

Campfire Cones: The New Way to Make Smores Even More FUN!

We camped over Mother's Day weekend.  It was cold and VERY windy, so we didn't get a chance to build a fire, but our next time out, you can bet we're going to build our campfire and make campfire cones.  This is guaranteed to "spark"  family memories to talk about around the Thanksgiving table for years to come.

Behind the Scenes Peek at The Voice Judges, Blake Shelton and Shakira Covering Lady A’s “Need You Now” [VIDEO]

You may have caught Shakira and Blake Shelton's cover duet of Lady Antebellum's "Need You Now" on the show, The Voice.  But, they performed it together live on stage at a Hollywood party and I think this version is better.  Better lighting and better sounding.  If you did see it on the nationally televised show, give this a listen, do you think it's better?  If you didn't get to see it, you're in for a treat!

Vinegar Makes a Cheap and Easy Weed Killer

It's spring!  We're starting to see buds on the trees and the grass is greening up (our neighbor has mowed his lawn twice already....he's retired).  But, with the sure signs of summer around the corner also comes weeds!  With the weeds, questions.  How do I get rid of them?  Will they come back?  How long until it's safe for my pets to walk on the lawn again?!?!  If you use this inexpensive concoction of things you already have in the house, it will be safe AND cost effective.

Spring Has Sprung Gardening Kick-off with the UW-Extension Horticulture Tomorrow

With the warmer weather (and NO SNOW), we can now start thinking about those starter plants.  My friend Jackie has her tomatoes and strawberry plants already started in a cute little greenhouse on her deck.  Inside her home she has fresh herbs that will be replanted and moved outside eventually.  I am in awe of her gardening knowledge!  If you are seeking that same knowledge, these classes with the UW-Extension Horticulture is for you.
