How many times have you said, "they should have", "why didn't they" or "how long are they going to be working on this?  Here's your chance to find out.  There will be a public meeting with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation you should attend to get answers to your questions and find out what's on the construction docket for the next few years.

This will be a public involvement meeting to discuss preliminary design concepts for the improvement of Belknap Street (US 2) from Banks Avenue to Hill Avenue. Both WisDOT, and the city of Superior will be present this Thursday, October 2, 2014 from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. in the large meeting room of the Superior Public Library, 1530 Tower Avenue.  Here's some of the things that will be discussed:

The fact that Belknap Street construction will be scheduled in three portions over two years:

  • 2017 - West Portion,  Banks Ave. to John Ave.
  • 2017 - East Portion,  Poplar Ave. to E. 7th St.
  • 2018 - Middle Portion,   John Ave. to Poplar Ave.

Also on the agenda is the US 2 Bong Bridge project update:

During the week of September 22, 2014, crews were working on painting, deck overlay and deck sealing work, and concrete bridge approaches.

Traffic impacts/detours:

  • May 5, 2014 through Nov. 1, 2014 - Both westbound lanes closed. Motorists will use signed detour onto Blatnik Bridge. US 2 traffic is reduced to one lane eastbound.
  • May 2015 through Nov. 1, 2015 - Eastbound traffic detoured to Blatnik Bridge.
