Park Point residents should be aware that starting next Monday they may experience a difference in water pressure.  But, it IS important and necessary as they will be flushing the fire hydrants starting at the Aerial Lift bridge and head south down the point.

This isn't due to a water main break.  Instead the City of Duluth Public Works and Utilities staff will be performing regular maintenance of the water system on Park Point.  I didn't even know they did this.  They will be systematically flush the hydrants starting from the Aerial Lift Bridge and work south towards the Sky Harbor Airport.

That means the Park Point neighborhood may experience a drop or loss of water pressure while staff are “flowing” the hydrants during the week of May 18-22. This work will take place between the hours of 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.  So plan your day accordingly.  They do this as regular maintenance that is important to flush out sediment that builds up in the pipes over time.

They anticipate the process will last a maximum of 10 to 15 minutes for each hydrant – until the sediment is discharged. Staff will then move south to the subsequent hydrants and repeat the process.

Residents who have issues with water pressure or have questions should contact Utility Operations at (218) 730-4130.

Thanks to the City of Duluth for letting us know so we can plan our day around the scheduled work!
