Hundreds of people gathered in Canal Park on Saturday, February 16 with the purpose of jumping into the largest freshwater lake in the world to support Special Olympics of Minnesota.
In all, 960 registered plungers took the dive into the 38 degree water of Lake Superior as air temperatures hovered around 17 degrees through the afternoon. Those plungers, along with other donors, were able to raise $170,000 as a part of the statewide campaign by Minnesota Law Enforcement for Special Olympics.
For the second year in a row, media partners Townsquare Media and MIX 108 offered a live video stream of the plunge. The stream was recored, giving plungers as well as family and friends the opportunity to relive the entire event.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the successful 2013 campaign, and we all look forward to seeing everyone again next winter!
