Uber Could Be Coming To Duluth Sooner Than You Think
According to a post by the Duluth News Tribune, ride services like Uber and Lyft could be coming to Duluth soon.
Hobbs was quoted in the Duluth News Tribune as saying “I think this will certainly accelerate the process — us working on it and letting Uber know that we’re in the process of working on an ordinance. But I think inevitably they would come to Duluth,”
Even without the ordinance, Uber could come into the market. Hobbs mentions that this would allow for rules to be set into place before the rideshares potentially get into town.
The ordinance would make it mandatory for all rideshare vehicles to get licensing through the city. Drivers would have to undergo background checks and need to be at least 19 years of age. Insurance and clean driving records would also be part of the process. As part of the ordinance, the rideshare companies like Uber and Lyft could only respond to bookings and not be hailed like a cab.
