The Haunted Shack In Carlton, Minnesota Is Back For A 30th Spooky Season

The Haunted Shack, the longest-running attraction in the Midwest, is ready to open again this year to celebrate its 30th season in Carlton. Once again, there will be a lot of scares to be found not only inside the shack but outside as well.

“The Shack”, as it has been called since the beginning, consists of a "maze of horrors where only the bravest souls enter to be taken through a dizzying tour of ghoulish scenes haunted by real actors, pneumatic props, sensory platforms, and state-of-the-art light and sound systems."

According to organizers, crews have begun working on this year’s attraction for over a month as they transform the working farm into the Haunted Ridge, making it bigger and better than ever. However, it hasn't been easy.

Not only did they have to deal with downed trees, but one of their main structures also collapsed over the past winter. However, their crews have worked diligently to rebuild the structure and clean up the trail in time for our opening.

According to Logan Stojevich, co-director, and technical builder, “It was a very rough winter, several times we had to go and clear snow off our building and structures, but one just didn’t hold up to the storm we had in March. It not only took out the structure but was one of our largest props. We have rebuilt the structure and have re-designed our ending to be even scarier than before.”

Visitors can also expect new twists and turns in this year's Haunted Corn Trail, including updated high-tech lighting and effects. Also, the hayride portion has been redone for the new season.

The Haunted Shack & Haunted Ridge, located at 1781 County Road 1 in Carlton, opens Friday, October 13 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. It will run a total of 9 nights and there is also a daytime show for the kids.

The remaining dates to check it out are:

• October 14th from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
• October 15th from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
• October 19th from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
• October 20th and 21st from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
• October 26th from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
• October 27th and 28th from 7:00 p.m.to 10:00 p.m.

For the kids, and the faint of heart, there will be a tamed-down version on Saturday, October 21 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Nighttime showings are $20.00 per person. Kid’s Day admission is $15.00 per person. All proceeds are donated to the local Special Olympics, Kids for Coats Campaign, Chum Food Shelf, and other local organizations

Discounts offered are $5 off with a military or student ID. Bring a non-perishable food item and receive $2.00 off the admission price or a coat for the coat drive and receive $5 off the admission price.

They're also looking for volunteers to help out. If you're part of a group or organization that would like to volunteer at the attraction, organizers have started a very generous fundraising program where you have an opportunity to earn up to $500 per night plus bonuses for a minimum commitment.
