Video stores used to be everywhere in the United States and Blockbuster led the way. Business Insider notes that at its peak in 2004, Blockbuster had 9,000 stores globally, earning $5.9 billion in revenue.

Then came the rise of Netflix and countless other streaming services and entertainment providers, which made the traditional visits to the video store a thing of the past. In fact, in 2018, Bend, Oregon became the home of the only remaining Blockbuster store in America.

While the Twin Ports used to have a Blockbuster store, there were also a handful of locally-owned video store businesses, including the popular Video Vision stores in Duluth and Superior, the first of which was opened in 1983.

Coincidentally, just as the Blockbuster empire was reduced to a single store in 2018, that was also the year that Video Video would close its last remaining Duluth location, making its Superior location the only one left in the Twin Ports.

Since that time, Video Vision, along with its partner Superior Tan, has been open for business at 1418 Belknap Street, however, that will sadly not be the case much longer.

On Tuesday, December 26, Video Vision made a surprise announcement through their Facebook page confirming that the Video Vision portion of their business and 'everything must go', all movies and related items will be sold to the public.

While Video Vision will be closing, they also confirmed in their announcement that the Superior Tan would remain open and continue to provide services for indoor tanners.

While Video Vision at this time didn't announce a closing date or additional details and when it would be selling off its inventory, one would assume there will be more information to come through its Facebook page.
