Since we can’t spend the entire Memorial Day weekend barbecuing, many Americans observe the day by hopping over to the local cinema to take in a blockbuster movie and some free air conditioning. 'Thor' continued to show its strength at the box office this weekend. The Marvel superhero flick, starring breakout hunk Chris Hemsworth, took in an estimated $34.5 million, bringing its 10-day total to $119.3 million. Overall, 'Thor' was down 48 percent from last weekend, according to EW.com.

It is the #1 movie in America and it's getting very good reviews.  I will see this movie, but I think the casting choice might be a distraction to the action.   Watch these Thor videos from Conan O'brien after the jump and see if you agree.

As expected, 'Thor' enjoyed a solid performance at the weekend box office. The superhero flick, which impressed most critics with its action-packed storyline and breakout performance by star Chris Hemsworth, took in an impressive $66 million, leaving the rest of the competition in the dust. Globally, the film has already grossed $242 million, according to Variety.

Three new movies are opening at our local Marcus Theatres this weekend. One has the makings of a mega-blockbuster in 'Thor,' the latest in a long line of superhero movies from Marvel.
