Perhaps the term 'Minnesota Nice' should be changed to 'Minnesota Generous'.  The Salvation Army and its supporters have amassed a groundswell of aid for Oklahoma tornado relief, including volunteers, $250,000 worth of off-road vehicles, a $100,000 corporate donation and $50,000 worth of private donations.

Pat and Carla Ringold of Benna Ford started Coats For Kids 10 years ago, and so far the Northland has donated over 10,000 coats!  This year the coat drive and other supporting sponsors collected 1500 coats for the Salvation Army this year alone.

For years you've wanted to volunteer and ring bell near the familiar Salvation Army red kettles.  While your compassion to help is high, your time with family commitments and work obligations just hasn't allowed it.  But, you have had time to use your social media and now you can work that to your advantage and get that volunteering in this year with the Online Red Kettle Program!

It's hard to picture a family living in conditions that are without heat, but that happens in the Northland.  As our temps drop, and the economy worsens, people begin to wonder if they can keep the heat on in their homes.  The Salvation Army has a program to help, it's called Heat Share and you can help.

Every fall there is a great need for warm winter clothing for children.  Benna Ford and B105 is teaming up to get 1,000 coats for Northland Children through the Salvation Army.  Bring your gently used or brand new coat to B105, and we will get them to the children who need them.

The Salvation Army says it only takes 5 teams of 2, working  2-hour shifts from 10a-8p to manage a red kettle for a day.  It does the heart good to volunteer.  Ringing dates are between November 9 and December 24.  Can you spare 2 hours of your day to help?

After reading the article in CBS news, my heart is heavy for the people of Joplin, MO, trying to cope with the natural disaster that hit their community.  The death toll in Missouri's devastating tornado is climbing as they continue to search for survivors.  They are calling it the deadliest single U.S. twister since the year 1953.  Unfortunately, it hit the city's hospital, a facility badly neede
