Lake Superior Zoo

A baby ring-tailed lemur was born in April and now the baby is on exhibit for the public to see at the Lake Superior Zoo.

Don't you think it's weird that once a year, we suddenly turn our attention from meteorologists to a groundhog to make the determination if we have six more months of winter or an early spring.  That has actually become a traditional holiday celebrated on February 2. Spike will be doing the honors in the City of Duluth again this year, but he isn't a groundhog.

Get ready for the sugar rush!  The Lake Superior Zoo will another popular Boo At The Zoo on Saturday, October 22.  The hours are 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.  This fun event provides kids the chance to show off their costumes as they trick or treat in a cool environment.

There are many different types of 5K races, but only one lets you run around the Lake Superior Zoo.  Saturday, August 6 is the Lake Superior Zoo Run Like an Animal 5K Run/Walk, and you can register right here.

Pokemon Go is the latest craze, and it doesn't take long for you to find people walking around playing it.  That's especially true near the Lake Superior zoo.  The Zoo is a Pokestop, which is a place you go as part of the game.  This Saturday, the zoo invites players to come and catch their Pokemon characters in a safe and friendly environment.

My daughter who is now 22 was into Pokemon years ago.  I'm still holding on to the Pokemon coin that she had hoped would be a collectors item someday.  Who knew that Pokemon would resurface and take the world by storm?  While I encourage you to enjoy the frenzy while it lasts, there are a few things you need to think about where safety is concerned.

When I first got the call that the Lake Superior Zoo wanted to come for a visit with a tarantula, I didn't think it would be that big of a deal.  Boy, was I wrong!  Ken was freaking out to the point of literally making audible sounds that I've never heard come out of his mouth before.  That made me even more brave to have Rosie crawl on my arm...well, sorta brave.

From helping to clean trash and debris so it doesn't end up in our rivers, streams and lakes to partying for the planet at the Lake Superior Zoo.  There's a lot you can do to help out the environment, educate your family and celebrate Earth Day 2016 together.

The end of the school year is near and if you're like me when my daughter was young, you're too busy to research and find exciting constructive things for your kids to do to fill their time this summer.  Since my daughter Kylee is graduating from UMD in May, I have time to do the research and help you out.

My husband and I wondered if they were going to complete the road construction near the Lake Superior Zoo last summer.  They didn't, but at least they took a hiatus so all lanes were available through the winter.  Now that it's Spring, they are going to start working on the roadway again and that means some lane closures and delays you should be aware of.

It's an annual event that your family looks forward to, the Easter Egg Hunt at the Lake Superior Zoo.  This year is no different, your whole family is invited to continue or start a new tradition.  It's an Easter Egg-Stravaganza!
