We were up at the hunting shack this weekend and we shot guns ALL DAY. We shot hundreds of rounds. We also shot a lot of archery. The problem is that this time of year it gets dark a little too early. So we made do with a couple sets of headlights. Here's a quick video I took before we starting shooting the archery target with our bows.
I've had portable stands for deer hunting for years. I've helped buddies haul them out in the woods, and they are heavy. It's a real pain, especially if you're hunting on public land where you can't leave them out there. This Millennium stand is a game changer. It's so light, you can wear it as a backpack.
While we've had an amazing run of warm weather, fall is coming and the colors are expected to be especially beautiful this year. One way to get out and and enjoy the scenery is to take part in the Minnesota grouse hunting season.
While the full Minnesota waterfowl season doesn't get underway until later this month, this weekend provides an opportunity for Minnesota youth to get a head start.
People have been asking what I did on my week off from work. A lot of the time I was sitting around a campfire at the cabin, or hanging out in the woods. This was the first time I got to try out my new toy: a bed LED light for my truck. It's awesome, check it out!
There's been talk about a bill introduced that would allow deer hunters to wear blaze pink in Wisconsin instead of blaze orange. They're hoping that this will get more people (probably women) into hunting. Sadly, it will be tough to get more people excited about hunting with a bucks only harvest.
Traditionally, hunting season means blaze orange clothing flying off store shelves and heading out into the woods. In the near future, Wisconsin hunters may have a new color option for hunting.
It's pretty rare that a deer will take on a human being, but it did occur Friday night in Fon Du Lac County. A 72 year old hunter shot a deer with an arrow from his crossbow and wounded the animal. The animal ran off, but later he went to track the doe.
This year my wife got me something that I really wanted. I had asked for a nice flip open knife that I could have on me for hunting, fishing, etc. Knives come in handy! (Especially opening Christmas toy packaging for the kids.) Well she delivered and I LOVE this thing!
This has been a big debate and it gets people hot under the collar. The gray wolf has been put back on the endangered species list in Great Lakes States after a federal judge ruled Friday that Minnesotans can't kill a wolf unless it threatens their lives directly. This also means that farmers and ranchers worried about wolves preying on cattle can't kill the wolves themselves.
