CHUM

We always think about our Community members that need a little help when the weather turns cold and our minds turn toward the holiday feasts.  However, more and more people are having to turn to our local food shelf and supplies are low.  There's an easy way to get involved while you're running your errands this Saturday.  It's the annual CHUM Share Food Drive.

This is the perfect season for pumpkin pie and if you buy one today, October 5, at the Coppertop Church in Duluth, you can help stock the local CHUM Food Shelf to help feed local hungry people.

Here's  a way for you to save time AND help feed the needy in the Northland. It's become a yearly tradition that the First United Methodist Church members and students from the College of St. Scholastica join forces and make lots and lots of pies to sell with the proceeds going to CHUM.  It happens this Wednesday, so set a reminder on your phone or put a postie note on your computer to stop by and

On Wednesday, July 27, Duluth Mayor Emily Larson gathered with Duluth City Councilors, American Red Cross, Salvation Army, CHUM and 211 to announce that 211 is the number to call if you need help recovering from the storms.

More and more Children go hungry in the summertime. Whenever I hear stories about pets and children, I automatically put my pet and child into the story. Now it's a family thing, and I think I could be in that group very fast. Families are lining up to do a night time shop in the food shelves. The challenge has become bigger for all food shelves but especially for CHUM.

This Saturday, June 25, is the 12th Annual Chum Rhubarb Festival in Duluth.  If you're looking for an event that promises unique food and fun for the whole family, this looks again to be a great option.

Did you get one of the plastic bags like the one in the picture with your mail this week?  It's for a very good reason and one you need to think about before you leave the house to float in a cold boat to fish, run errands or head to work tomorrow.

I wish I could sew.  I did not make my Wrenshall School Home Economics teacher, Mrs. Urbanski proud.  I spent more time ripping than I did sewing.  I should have the skills, my grandmother could sew anything and without a pattern!  CHUM has a huge community event every year and are in need of a volunteer that can sew.  Is that you?

I can't count how many times I've had friends and acquaintances tell me that they are in need of a job and to keep my eyes and ears open for them.  When I got the email about this job I thought I would share and perhaps it can help someone have a comfortable lifestyle!  Before you think it isn't for you, read on!

Earlier I had blogged about the Minnesota Food Share Campaign with CHUM.  I talked about how in the month of March food and cash donations to CHUM are matched.  I was surprised to find out that diapers also follow under that category until I read on wdio.com that the Duluth Police Department were part of a community effort in a diaper drive.

Most of us only think about the food shelves in our area around the holidays.  But the sad truth is that the food shelf is important to many Northland families year round.  March is FoodShare month and is important in the fact that the donations are matched!  Please keep this in mind during your next trip to the grocery store and be generous.

It truly is rewarding to give time and energy to a non-profit in our Community and there are several to choose from.    According to their website Chum provides basic needs services for homeless and marginalized members of our community while working to effect changes which will eliminate the need for our services.
