Aerial Lift Bridge

A project to replace wire ropes that raise and lower Duluth's Aerial Lift Bridge is set to start next Monday, February 1.  Here's the specifics for those that travel that route.

Once again, the City of Duluth is looking to hire a Bridge Operator, what an opportunity for someone with the right qualifications!  If you've been holding out for a dream job in the Northland, this is it!  But hurry, application deadline is January 4, 2016.

Whether you're walking the dog, checking out the waves or even training for Grandma’s  Marathon (which isn't easy with the snow and ice), use extreme caution around the Aerial Lift Bridge. It never occurs to me that there could be potential danger lurking above me, other than from the pigeons and seagulls.

Friday night (September 18) saw Duluth's Aerial Lift Bridge and Enger Tower bathed in teal light as part of an awareness campaign for ovarian cancer.

Sadly, almost everyone knows someone who has had or has cancer.  There are many types of cancer and the month of September is dedicated to raising awareness of Ovarian Cancer.  Not only is money raised, but they bring awareness in a very unique and interesting way that involves two of our iconic landmarks in the Northland and the color teal.

The Aerial Lift Bridge recently went to it's Fall schedule which means it will only lift upon request from marine traffic.  I had blogged that fact indicating that you won't be bridged as often, however, on Monday and Tuesday you will experience congestion and delays near the bridge.

Vehicle and foot traffic on Park Point picks up in the summer and so does the the shipping industry.  It is a sure sign that warmer weather and sunny days are ahead when the Aerial Lift Bridge starts their summer schedule.  With the cooler weather, less tourist and ship traffic, it's time to transition back to the Fall schedule.What does that mean to you?

I was notified that the Aerial Lift Bridge is having a maintenance day and that may mean a delay, especially since the hot weather has had a lot of locals and tourists seeking beach time.  Here's what's happening.

Many families will be out enjoying fourth of July festivities on Saturday.  For some, the securing of the Aerial Lift Bridge and the Minnesota Slip Bridge (also known as the blue foot bridge) will be a good thing, but for boaters, this is valuable information to know.

If you caught a glimpse of the Aerial Lift Bridge last Independence Day, you undoubtedly noticed the awesome patriotic lighting through the night. The folks behind the special lighting last year announced they will be doing it again this year.
