Sad news arrived at the end of the week from the Superior Police Department and the Northland K-9 Foundation regarding an amazing, decorated former member of their department.

Here is the official post, which was shared on Facebook Friday, April 17:

It is with great sadness we share the news that K-9 Blek of the Superior Police Department has passed away. Blek served from 2006 until he retired last year. He had been fighting the effects of Degenitive Mylopithy, a disease that attacks the nerves. Blek and his partner, Officer Todd Maas, were once honored with the Wisconsin state award for Apprehension of the Year for their work capturing a suspect who was later convicted of attempted murder. The suspect had thrown a knife at Officer Maas. K-9 Blek was able to bring the suspect to the ground, saving officers from using deadly force.

We extend our sympathies to Officer Maas and his family, the Superior Police Department and all who cared for this amazing four legged hero. Thank you, Blek, for all that you did. You will be missed.

Blek sounded like an amazing dog and our hearts go out to all who had the honor of knowing and working with him.
