The City of Duluth is very conscious of  the traffic use of our Aerial Lift Bridge.  They try to limit the construction closures to when there is the least amount of traffic affected.  They are in the process of finishing the painting of the bridge.  With that said, if it affects you and your family, here is the latest information you should know about upcoming closures, and why.

The Aerial Lift Bridge rehabilitation project will require temporary nighttime

closures. Anticipated duration for the nighttime closure period is from August 9, 2011 through August 12, 2011. The bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic from 1:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. during this closure period. The bridge will be opened to vehicular traffic from 3:00 a.m. to 3:30 a.m. to clear any waiting traffic. There will be changeable message boards located at each end of the bridge to notify the public of the closures or changes to the duration of the project. Any changes to the scheduled closure days will be posted no less than 18 hours prior to the change.

The bridge will be restricted to one-lane, one-way traffic during the work. The signals at each end of the bridge will be used to keep traffic flowing through the work area.

In addition, intermittent day time bridge closures may be required to facilitate additional set-up and

clean-up. These closures will not last longer than 15 minutes per occasion. In preparation for the project, Morse Street, between South Lake Ave and Canal Park Drive will also be closed for one week starting Monday, August 8, 2011 at 6:00 a.m. The area is being used for staging and storage of equipment for the project.

These closures are necessary to surface finish the counterweights and complete final cleaning as part of the bridge painting project.
