The weather has been great for training if you're registered for one of the races on Grandmas Marathon Weekend!  However, if you're in need of inspiration or if you are looking for valuable information then you'll want to attend the annual Gearing Up for Grandma’s pre-race seminar.  It doesn't matter if you're a novice or a beginner, the event will hold something for everyone. As usual, the event is offered for free and this year it will take place this Saturday, March 12, from 9a-11a.   Once again it will be held at Essentia Health’s First Street Building and the speaker this year will be local favorite, Katie McGee.  She is admired for being a 3-time Olympic trials qualifier and 2015 Grandma’s Marathon Masters Champion.  Her speech is entitled "Running Through The Ages".

Also speaking that day is:

Ben Nelson, MD – Grandma’s Marathon Medical Director and Essentia Health Orthopedic/Sports Medicine Physician will talk about how to avoid injury and remain healthy for the race.

Amanda Joyce, MS, RD, LD – Essentia Health Registered Dietitian, gives tips on nutrition for having the best running body.

Jim and Mary Stukel – Owners of Tortoise and Hare Footwear talk about finding the right footwear.

See?  Something for everything and all your questions answered.  New this year, is the ability to stream Gearing Up For Grandma's on their Facebook page.  While we have a lot of local runners, several come from other states and other countries.  This gives those runners the ability to be part of a pre-race offering that they've never been able to attend unless they traveled to Duluth.
