Just announced today, a new 12 mile natural gas line from north of Trego, WI  to South of Minong.  Most of the funds for the project is being invested by Link Snacks Inc, makers of Jack Link’s® Beef Jerky . The new pipeline is expected to serve area residents and businesses and provide them with an affordable and efficient energy source.

Construction is expected to start this year, with completion of the first phase by this fall with the gas main being connected to a substation at the Link Snack company’s Minong plant. Then, by spring of 2014, the gas line will be extended into the Village of Minong.

The project will also create jobs that will bring revenue to the community in the form of lodging and dining.  Plus, the new natural gas line will help to preserve the more than 500 existing, full-time jobs at the Jack Link’s facility now.

According to Thomas Myers, a corporate manager of sustainability at Link Snacks, Inc, "Natural gas is a cleaner fuel source. Because the gas is served via a pipeline, the 6-inch polyethylene gas main will eliminate the need for road hauling to transport fuels such as liquid propane, even further reducing Minong’s effect on the environment.”
