Again this year, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is looking to encourage young people to get out and fish, and for a few days in the near future, adults with fishing kids won't need a fishing license. This is great news for people like me who have procrastinated and have yet to get their license.

Take A Kid Fishing Weekend is from Friday, June 5, to Sunday, June 7. During the weekend, Minnesotans age 16 or older don’t need a fishing license to take a child age 15 or younger fishing.

It's all about family experiences and having fun out on Minnesota lakes and, according to the Minnesota DNR, even when it’s not Take a Kid Fishing Weekend, Minnesota residents generally can fish in state parks without a fishing license if the body of water doesn’t require a trout stamp.

So, mark you calendar, find your fishing poles and hit the bait shop. If you're family is new to fishing, the link below can answer basic questions and get you comfortable with fishing terminology.
