With the holidays coming up fast more and more people are out looking for that perfect gift.  Of course, the most perfect gift would one that you either same money on or you get a little spiff for yourself.  But, as the Duluth Police Department warns, there are scams out there waiting to take you off guard.  BE WARE!

You need to be careful when using your credit card whether it's online or in the store.  You need to be careful walking to and from your car (I hate that it gets dark so early)!  You need to be careful when you make a purchase online that it's from a reputable company.  The warnings and reminders go on and on.  The Duluth Police Department has some specific warnings you should know.

Some people get so excited for Black Friday and Cyber Monday, they are the busiest on-line shopping days and the days that crooks will take advantage of you and your money.

  • At the moment, there are too-good-to-be-true coupons that offer free phones or tablets on sites all over the Internet. Don't fall for it. Make sure the offers are from a legitimate company.
  • Watch out for alerts via email or text that you just received a package from FedEx, UPS or the US Mail, and then ask you for some personal information. Don't enter anything. Think Before You Click!
  • There is a fake refund scam going on that could come from Amazon, a hotel, or a retail chain. It claims there was a "wrong transaction" and wants you to "click for refund" but instead, your device will be infected with malware.

They remind you, “If it too good to be true, it probably is”
