How many scams are there these days? It looks like there is yet another one, as scammers haven't run out of ideas just yet. The scary part about this scam is that it happens over the phone and has a very particular victim in mind.

Scammers are targeting customers with Central Wisconsin Electric Cooperative, an electric utility provider. The company shared details of the scam late last month, warning that a few of their customers have almost fallen victim to this scam.

According to their post, the scammer called a customer and pretended like they were an employee with the company. From there, they offer the customer fifty bucks off their electric bill. In these tight times, who wouldn't want that? It may even make someone more likely to fall for the scam.

The company says they will never make a call like this or offer discounts over the phone. Therefore, if you use the company and get a call like this, hang up and call them directly to double check and make sure it is not a scam. You can call their office directly at 715-677-2211.

Even if you don't use this company, it is not out of the question for a similar scam to surface closer to our neck of the woods. Scammers are creative and may even hear of this scam and test it out here so remain vigilant. If something seems too good to be true, it probably is. Sigh.

Even celebrities aren't immune from scams! One famous artist just took to social media to warn fans of a scam that used their face without authorization. Scammers will do and say anything these days and make it seem legitimate so be extra cautious.
