Cool. Modern. Current. Sophisticated. All of these words have a nice ring to them! Duluth has been named the 'hippest' city in Minnesota.

MSN.com recently released a list of the hippest city in every state. What exactly makes a city hip? They explained their reasoning and I have to say, it all makes sense.

First and foremost, Duluth is a huge tourist destination. People come from all over to see Lake Superior, Canal Park and everything else the beautiful city has to offer. On top of that, big events like Grandma's Marathon and Bentleyville, draw even more visitors to our lovely living quarters.

Another reason the town snagged the top spot? The view! It's true - it can't be beat and still manages to take my breath away every time I drive down the hill and see the lake. There isn't anywhere you can go that isn't beautiful.

Duluth is also perfect for the outdoor enthusiast. MSN says the almost unlimited options the city provides for outdoor recreation makes the city hip. Skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing are huge winter activities, just to name a few. There's just as much to do outside of winter, too - kayaking, boating, water skiing, and more.

Great Lakes Aquarium also helped Duluth notch the title. The site says because it is the country's only all-freshwater aquarium, it sets us apart from not only other cities in the state, but other cities across the country.

Minnesota Point also got an honorable mention. The world's longest freshwater sandbar stretches seven miles. Enough said.

MSN.com also cites the restaurants, shops and lively art scene as reasons Duluth is so hip. Having so many activities for the whole family also helps.

This wasn't mentioned as a determining factor but I think the Haunted Ship also makes Duluth hip. Everyone has heard of a haunted house but a ship? That's as hip as it gets. (Random, I know!)

Hip, hip hooray!
