After I heard about the special showing of "You'll Like My Mother" at the Duluth Library, I looked it up.  The movie is interesting because it was filmed in Duluth at the Glensheen Mansion. I spend most of movie watching the backgrounds in the scenes to see what was familiar.  What to see the movie for free to celebrate it's 40th anniversary?

It was filmed In 1972 at the historic Glensheen mansion in Duluth.  The film starred Patty Duke and Richard Thomas. To mark the 40th anniversary of the film’s release, the Duluth Public Library will be showing the movie this Saturday, November 3 at 1 pm in the Green Room (520 W. Superior St.). There is no admission charge. Prior to the screening, former Duluth News Tribune columnist Jim Heffernan will share his memories of the filming and of the Duluth premiere and party.

A quick synopsis:   In You’ll Like My Mother, Patty Duke plays Francesca Kinsolving, a very pregnant California girl who ventures north to Minnesota to introduce herself to her late husband’s mother. Throughout their brief marriage, Francesca’s husband had promised her, “you’ll like my mother.” Expecting a welcoming reception from the older Mrs. Kinsolving, Francesca instead finds a house of horrors.

For more information about the November 3 film screening, call the library’s Fiction/Media desk at 730-4200/option 6.
