Maybe you've seen the video that's been going around Facebook that shows how you can use a mix of rubbing alcohol and water to spray the frost away on your windshield. It was made from a meterologist in Tennessee, and he makes it looks like we are dummies for scraping away all these years. So I tried the mixture out on a few icy windows in our parking lot.
There use to be a day when a -35 and -40 below wind chill was considered dangerous and our schools closed for the safety of our students. What has changed that they now go to school in these extremely cold temperatures? I have scoured a couple local school's websites and can't find the magic number posted anywhere.
Although we should all know how we need to dress when it gets as cold as it is outside this week, many people still find themselves lacking the necessary gear to prevent frostbite, which can happen faster than you think.

Growing up in a small community we didn't have sidewalks to worry about. The garbage man walked in for the cans and I parked in the turn around of our driveway. So, when I moved to the City of Duluth, I had some learning to do. When I asked friends that had lived here for awhile, they weren't certain how to answer. Hopefully this will answer questions you may have about parking, garbage and sidewalks in the Northland winter months.
