Senate Vote Might Save Mail Processing Center In Duluth

This is most certainly good news for Duluth and the employees who work at the local processing center.  Sen. Al Franken sees the craziness in having mail sent from one local address to another having to be processed in St. Paul.  Let's hope our local processing center is never targeted again to be closed.

Duluth Lands Aviation Jobs With AAR Agreement

We knew Duluth was on the short list of cities that could get this opportunity.  Now we have confirmation that hiring could start as early as summer if all goes well.  Congratulations to all involved in the process and hopefully this helps create momentum in the Northland economy.

Best Buy Promises To Release Findings Of Inquiry Into Former CEO

I mentioned on my show today that former Best Buy CEO Brian Dunn resigned under suspicious circumstances.  There was talk that Dunn, who is married, was having a relationship with a 29-year-old woman who worked for the company.  However, as this article points out, there has to be more to this story because of the legal experts the company has hired to investigate his behavior.

Law Firm Fires 14 Employees For Wearing Orange Shirts

Stories like this drive me crazy.  Getting fired for wearing certain colored shirt?  Even if it was a protest, which it doesn't appear to be, who cares?  It's a shirt.  Usually, when a company flexes their muscle in such a way it reveals a major interpersonal weakness on their behalf.

They weren't wearing sagging pants or revealing clothing. But dressing in an orange shirt is apparently enough to get fired at one Florida law firm, where 14 workers were unceremoniously let go last Friday.

Read Greg Smith’s Resignation Essay: ‘Why I’m Leaving Goldman Sachs’

Well, if you have a moral disagreement with a company and have confidence in your ability, why not go out with a Jerry Maguire moment.  I'm sure you have heard about Greg Smith and his very public resignation from the legendary firm of Goldman Sachs.  Here is his entire resignation essay, which first appeared in the New York Times.  Would you ever quit a job this way?  If you have, I'd love to hear your story!

Today is my last day at Goldman Sachs. After almost 12 years at the firm — first as a summer intern while at Stanford, then in New York for 10 years, and now in London — I believe I have worked here long enough to understand the trajectory of its culture, its people and its identity. And I can honestly say

See What It’s Like To Climb A Radio Tower! [Video]

You've seen the radio towers in the Northland towering on the hill.  Perhaps you'd like to break into radio by learning how to properly climb such a tower, thousands of feet above the ground.  I could barely watch this video, I can't imagine ever doing this for a living.  Would you ever consider doing this?  Enjoy the video after the jump (no pun intended)

Local US Postal Service Moving

I was so sad to read that they are moving our US Postal Service to the Twin Cities.  I enjoy the friendly wave, the smile and the small talk in the summer with my mail carrier.  Not to mention the jobs lost of many Northlanders with family.  What now?  Will they move with the facility and we'll lose some of our citizens?  Here's the details, according to our TV partners, the Northland's News Center.
