As 2014 comes to a close, we decided to take a look back at the year that was. It was certainly an interesting year for us here in the Twin Ports. From extreme weather to celebrity visitors and crazy-awesome videos, we put together a list of the top 10 most visited, liked, and shared local stories from our website. Here they are!
This year we found some old footage of a Golden Girls-like promo video starring the B105 staff. Even in this modern era, it’s hard to beat some vintage B105. Watch the video here.
We saw a few viral challenges on social media this year. One of them, the “cold water challenge”, had individuals finding their way to the frigid waters of area lakes. The potentially dangerous trend led to a warning from area officials. Read the full story here.
Duluth was part of a handful of competitions to earn various titles. Among them, Outside Magazine hosted a nation-wide voting contest to name the best outdoor town in the country. Thanks to your community pride, Duluth fared quite well. Read the full story here.
The students at Duluth Denfeld came together this year to choreograph a massive video effort to show off Hunter school pride. Over 1,000 students and staff members got involved in the fun video set to Carly Rae Jepsen’s hit song “Good Time”. Watch the video here.
Following the tragic fatal shooting of Mendota Heights Police Officer Scott Patrick during a routine traffic stop in July, Northland police officers traveled to the Twin Cities in a caravan to attend the funeral service. This moving video was caught by a member of the Moose Lake Police Department. Watch the video here.
As the Minnesota Vikings moved to TCF Bank Stadium as their temporary home while their new stadium is built, many fans were disappointed to find out season ticket prices would be going up for this year. In what was arguably the biggest Twin Ports concert event of 2014, Dierks Bentley and Sara Evans entertained a huge crowd at Bayfront Festival Park. Among the many songs Dierks played for the droves of fans was his hit “Drunk on a Plane”. The song turned into a sing-along with the crowd, and Dierks even found himself impressed with the result; sharing a tweet about the show. See what Dierks had to say here.

With early 2014 being as cold as it was, much of Lake Superior was frozen over late last winter. This gave these fishermen the opportunity to venture out in search of some lake trout on ol’ Gitche Gumee. Little did they know they would pull this monster out of the deep.
