Ken Hayes

Hello!  I'm one half of the breakfast club on B105.  Thanks for checking out my page!  Here's a little about me:Background:I grew up on the Iron Range and have lived in quite a few places since, including the Twin Cities, Fairmont MN, and of course the great Twin Ports.  I feel at home in the Duluth/Superior Area and I've always missed the Northland when I haven't been here.I graduated from Virginia High School, and then went on to receive my degree in Communications from Brown College.  I took my first gig in Radio at a small station in southern Minnesota.  After 3 years, I had to move back.  I got sick of corn and pigs and not much else.  Luckily, I was able to land this job at B105 in 2007.  Since then, I've had the biggest changes in my life, including getting married, buying a house, and actually growing up.  (Cathy Kates would argue with that.)Here's some questions that listeners often ask me:Do you like Country Music?- Of course I do!  I have a pretty well rounded taste in music, but country is my favorite.  I also like a lot of old school country.  Not just your typical Johnny Cash/Willie Nelson/Waylon Jennings "outlaw stuff" but also classics from Conway Twitty, Vern Gosdin, Don Williams, etc.  My favorite artists that are popular now are probably Jason Aldean, Jamey Johnson, Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert, and more.  Besides country, I have a pretty good handle on classic rock too.Do you and Cathy get along?Cathy and I love to give each other a hard time on the Breakfast Club, and we wouldn't be able to if we didn't enjoy each other's company.  There are times when she really does drive me crazy and I know I drive her crazy sometimes (usually I try to :).What's the best part of your job?-It's fun!  We work a lot of really screwy hours, and we aren't millionaires, but it doesn't feel like work.  And that's pretty cool. What time do you get up in the morning?4:30am - And that really stinks.  Thank god I'm a guy and can get ready for the day in only 20 minutes. (includes shower, shave, and dressing time)Send me an e-mail.  I'd love to hear from you!  And thanks for listening!

George Jones passed away today, and he will continue to be one of our biggest legends and most influential country musicians ever.  Pretty much all of our country artists would have to say George Jones was a major influence on their career and life.

Have Your Family Try A “No Screen Day” & Put Away Electronics

Cathy and I were talking this morning about how people are so distracted by smartphones, tablets, etc.   It seems like we spend so much of our lives staring at screens and hardly looking at each other.  It's also not really considered quality family time either when all of you are staring at your smartphones, so my wife and I came up with the "No Screen Day" idea.

Netflix Will Begin Offering “Family Plan” For Subscribers at $12 a Month

I've been a Netflix subscriber for quite a few years now.  I use Netflix a few times a week, primarily when I work out and want to watch something interesting, instead of stumbling on a cable channel.  I stuck with the company when they divided the mail in option and the streaming option into two separate plans.  Considering I always forgot to mail in the DVD's anyway.  But, there are new changes coming to Netflix.

Ken & Cathy Talk to Kellie Pickler About Behind the Scenes at Dancing With The Stars [AUDIO]

This morning we were lucky enough to chat with Kellie Pickler about what really goes on at Dancing With The Stars.  I was awestruck, as Kellie is my celebrity crush, but I was able to pull it together with the help of Cathy and find out some really interesting stuff.   For example, Kellie will be in MN tomorrow and dancing partner Derek Hough will be traveling with her so they can rehearse!

World War Z Second Trailer Offers No Hope to Fans of the Book [VIDEO]

I previously mentioned how if you're a fan of the World War Z book by Max Brooks, you shouldn't give up on the Brad Pitt movie.  Well apparently I was wrong.  The second trailer strays even further from the book, and this looks like a pile of crap.  I hate to say it, because I would have loved to see the actual story of the book made into a movie.  Not this one man saves the day kind of crap.

Will Ice Be Off Lakes By Fishing Opener?

For the first time that I can remember, we are in actual danger of not having open lakes for fishing opener.  No one can say for sure, but we are definitely cutting it close if they do thaw out.  Local reports in the Northland have ice thickness anywhere from 2-3 feet.  That would be comparable to usually mid February thickness.

Swearing ON AIR, TV Anchor Gets Fired For Dropping F Bomb [VIDEO]

Warning, this is obviously swearing.  AJ Clemente got his first job on and his first words were "F--g --S---t.'  Oops.  I feel so bad for this guy.  What he said was obviously wrong, and I don't blame the station for immediately firing him.  But here's a guy who has worked to get to this point at the very start of his career and it all goes up in smoke.  He was even mocked on Letterman.  What a disaster.

Help Us Interview Kellie Pickler Wednesday Morning! We Need Your Questions!

Cathy informed me yesterday that we will be interviewing Kellie Pickler this Wednesday morning.   I'm a little nervous.  Ok, so I'm actually freaking out.  What am I going to ask her?   What am I going to say?  Will I freeze up and say something stupid, or blurt out "You have a pretty face!"

My Earth Day Apology to Our Planet

Today I woke up like any other Earth Day, not realizing that it's Earth Day.  I mean, it's something we really don't look forward to unless your big into planting trees.  So I thought back on how I've mistreated the earth this last year.  It's almost always by accident, but still it wasn't good for the environment.  I'm not a litterer, and I recycle... most of the time.  But here are some things I'm sorry about.

1.  My boat motor.  It's old, it leaks, and it's not good for the lakes.  I've tried and actually improved it, but man it's spilled its fair share of gas.
