Miranda Lambert is one bada– broad (we mean that lovingly) that you do not want to cross. Why? Because much like the protagonist of her smash ‘Gunpowder and Lead,’ she carries a weapon. It may not be a shotgun, as the lyrics proclaim, but make no mistake — Lambert is armed. The reason she guns up? She was the recipient of a death threat and needs to protect herself, which she does by taking matters into her own hands.
Toss back those red solo cups, as Toby Keith has signed on to host the 2012 CMT Music Awards, which will air Wednesday, June 6 at 8PM ET on CMT and at CMT.com. The country superstar will be joined by actress Kristen Bell, who will co-host alongside him. We’re beyond excited to see how well Keith and Bell play off one another.
Carrie Underwood is dominating the landscape right now, especially in the mainstream media. The ‘Blown Away’ singer, whose new album of the same name topped the Billboard chart for two weeks in a row, will be featured in the forthcoming 20th anniversary ‘Dateline’ special, which airs tonight (May 22) at 10PM ET on NBC. Make a note of it!
Congratulations are in order for Taylor Swift, Lady Antebellum and Blake Shelton. All three country acts have been nominated for 2012 Teen Choice Awards outside of their genre. Swift was nominated in the Choice Female Artist category, where she is up against pop divas like Adele, Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry and Rihanna. Lady A received a nod in the Choice Music Group category, where they will do battle with the likes of LMFAO and the Wanted, among others.
Taylor Swift is known for her confessional songs regarding her romantic relationships, but she is also able to celebrate other interpersonal connections through a different artform. The singer has released a new line of Mother’s Day cards via American Greetings, which feature her imagery of her tunes, like ‘Stay Beautiful’ and ‘The Best Day,’ the latter of which she penned for her own mom, Andrea.
New mom is not the only role Jewel is tackling this year. The singer will be playing country music icon June Carter Cash, the wife of Johnny Cash, in a forthcoming Lifetime biopic about the late ‘Jukebox Blues’ songstress.
Carrie Underwood was the winner of ‘American Idol‘ Season 4, but she has progressed into a full-blown, legitimate country superstar in the years since she nabbed that crown. It’s pretty much a footnote of her career at this point. But that didn’t stop the ‘Good Girl’ from returning to her former stomping grounds to perform, especially since her new album ‘Blown Away’ dropped earlier this week.
Power trio Lady Antebellum commandeered ‘The View’ stage yesterday morning (May 1), performing their moving ballad ‘Dancing Away With My Heart’ from their ‘Own the Night’ album. The daily gabfest’s stage was billowing with clouds of white and purple smoke at Lady A’s feet for the entire performance. It was a dramatic effect, but it was almost enough for us to wonder if they needed a fire extinguisher!
Kix Brooks isn’t the new guy in the video for his Joe Walsh-assisted song ‘New to This Town.’ He’s more like the narrator who witnesses everything and follows the action. The clip also features Brooks as a character in the middle of the plot scenes, singing his song while events unfold around him. Then, things occur in reverse. Sadly, we don’t get do-overs in life nor are we able to undo things once they’ve happened. But it’s fun to pretend like we have that power or ability for a few minutes in a video for a country song that muses about what could or should be in life.
It’s been a tumultuous couple of months for Steel Magnolia. First, Joshua Scott Jones headed to rehab. Then, it was rumored that he and partner Meghan Linsey had broken up both as a couple and as a group. The duo was also dropped by its label, Big Machine. Jones recently confirmed that he and Linsey were indeed professionally entwined without commenting on their personal relationship, and now, the group has announced a handful of tour dates that are sprinkled throughout 2012.
Country music will be well-represented this summer for the ‘TODAY’ show summer concert series, which always boasts a lineup to look forward to. The Band Perry will hit the stage on June 1, while Kenny Chesney will perform on June 22. Zac Brown Band will appear on July 13, right smack dab in the middle of the summer swelter. So you can start these particular days with a little dose of country before hitting the beach or the park or whatever you plan to do that afternoon.
