Not too long ago pet owners had to deal with the fear of purchasing tainting dog food and were losing their beloved pets.  Unthinkable!  How does one know if the bag of dog food they're buying is safe for their pet?  One way to a avoid that dreadful situation is make your own.

The other time this comes in handy is when your pup is feeling ill.  There's been several times I've had to serve my dog boiled hamburger and rice to settle his tummy (by suggestion of my vet).  This recipe sounds good enough to serve to my family!!!

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb ground chicken
  • 1/2 lb ground turkey
  • 1 lb baby carrots
  • 2 small baking potatoes
  • 3 cups brown rice
  • 3 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 3 cups chicken broth
  • 2 cups water

DIRECTIONS

  •  Cook all 3 ground meats together in larger 6 quart dutch oven.
  • Add rice, chicken broth and water. Cook on medium heat for 30 minutes.
  • Add potatoes and carrots, and slightly beaten eggs. Cook for an additional 20 - 30 minutes.
  • After cooking, put mixture into storage containers. This freezes very well.
