Every community has specific things that set them apart.  Here are a few things that only people living in Superior can truly understand.  Feel free to add to the list!

You know all of the shortcuts around the trains.

If you've lived in Superior long enough, you will eventually learn tricks to avoid trains, or at least alter your route when you see a traffic back up.

You think drink prices are outrageous anywhere compared to Tower Avenue

Superior is a great place to get a drink.  Seriously, throw a rock and you'll hit a bar.  Odds are those drinks will be pretty cheap if you stick to the Taverns.  Be prepared to get a little sticker shock as soon as you cross the bridge and go to the more touristy places.  $6.00 will buy you a beer and a shot in Superior.  In Canal Park, that'll get you a pint.  We love our dive bars!

The bridges don't scare you like other people.

I didn't realize how many people I know are afraid of driving over the bridges.  Or for those not afraid of it, but think it's too far to go.  It takes about the same time to drive over the bridge as it does to sit at a traffic light.

    You know Superior's hidden gems.

When you first enter town from Duluth on the High Bridge, you're in the industrial part of town.  It's old, historic, and let's face it: it looks run down.  Keep going further into the city and there are some of the nicest neighborhoods in the Twin Ports.  Seriously.   Check out Central Park or Billings Park.  Some of the most expensive and nicest homes in Duluth & Superior are located there.  Superior also has tons of parks, bike trails, and the Superior Municipal Forest.  Nemadji golf is one of the nicest courses in the area and it offers 36 holes!

You've probably had a flooded basement and a storm water utility fee in the same month.

If you're a homeowner in Superior, you get this bill twice a year.  It's really a tax, they just don't want to call it that.   What makes it frustrating is that we pay it every year even though a lot of our basements still flood.  Hopefully the money will pay off someday.

You know how it feels to watch a $30,000 dollar ice sculpture collapse.

Yes it was supposed to be the big attraction for Superior:  The Ice Project.   Unfortunately it came tumbling down due to some frustrating weather conditions.  Then ironically nobody could get it down after it was rebuilt in the spring.

You worry about having to pay for garbage some day.

We're unique in Superior that we don't pay for garbage.  However, for years city officials always pointed at that fact when we complained about our high taxes.  But in the recent years, the city has tried to change that and it's become a heated debate.  Not to mention they sneaked that recycle fee in this year.
