I took my family up to Laskiainen Festival in Palo, MN this weekend.  Laskiainen (lus-key-eye-nen) is a Finnish celebration of the changing seasons.  Locally, there is a celebration every year in Palo, and this was actually our first time going.   We were excited to try out the sliding hill!  When we go there, it was a little more intense than we imagined.

Our (almost) 8 year old decided he was going to be brave enough to try.  So he stood in line for a while, and I patiently waited for him at the bottom of the hill.   I saw people flying by with the sounds of the sleds screaming on the ice chute.   I thought to myself, "I hope he's ok, I hope he doesn't chicken out, I hope he won't panic and lose control."
