Are you looking for a project for you group to participate in?  I recently found Duluth's Pick-A-Project and there are several different projects to choose from.  Find the one that best fits your group's volunteer skills and goals and give back to the community!

Here is a list of the different projects available.  This is perfect for a church group, boy and girl scouts, sports teams and others to do something good for the Northland and gain a sense of accomplishment while building camaraderie.  The list will give you insight as to how many volunteers are needed and best age.

Project 1: Tree planting party! (Hurry, this one is for this month!)

This fall, the City of Duluth needs to plant 100 trees along our bike paths. You can organize a tree planting party with your group! Most tree planting parties will be scheduled at various locations along the new Cross City Trail. Staff instruction and all tools are provided.Minimum group size = 8. Maximum group size = 15.  Minimum age = 14.

Date Restrictions: Tree planting parties must be scheduled between September 11 and September 30, 2014.

Project 2: Night of the Invasive Plants

Groups can help push back the population of non-native, invasive plants in their favorite Duluth Park by signing up to volunteer with the Duluth Invaders program. Primarily, groups will be assigned to either pull Buckthorn or cut Japanese Knotweed. Various locations are available; site will be selected depending on geographic preference and group size/age. Staff instruction and all tools are provided. Minimum group size = 5. Maximum group size = 30. Minimum age = 5 (with an adult). Preferred age = 9+

Project 3: One person’s trash is another person’s treasure.

Individuals, families and groups (large and small) are invited to help keep our public spaces free of unsightly litter. Various locations are available across Duluth; site will be selected depending on geographic preference and group size/age. Volunteers are provided clean-up guidelines, recycling bags, trash bags, gloves, scale (for weighing collected garbage). Trash pick-up services are provided. Minimum group size = 1. Maximum group size = 50. All ages welcome.

Project 4: Stop and smell the roses.

Individuals, families and groups (large and small) are invited to assist with beautification projects at the Duluth Rose Garden, including weeding, edging and other landscaping projects. Staff instruction and tools are provided. Minimum group size = 1. Maximum group size = 50. Minimum age = 6 (with an adult). Preferred age = 9+

Project 5: An apple a day …

Groups can support local community gardens and edible public landscapes through our Edible Duluth initiative. From mulching apple trees to cleaning/weeding community gardens, volunteers will be a part of a growing network of local, healthy and accessible food.  Various locations are available; site will be selected depending on geographic preference and group size/age. Staff instruction and all tools are provided.  Minimum group size = 5. Maximum group size = 30.  All ages welcome.
