The baby lemurs names have been chosen and they will be announced as part of a fun day at the Lake Superior Zoo.  The World Lemur Festival aims to raise awareness about lemurs and Madagascar's unique heritage. The Lake Superior Zoo will mark World Lemur Festival with events this Friday, October 24.

The public is invited to the zoo to participate in the following activities at the Primate Conservation Center:

  • 11:30 am Lemur keeper chat
  • 11:45 am Announcement of the names of the baby lemurs and the amount raised for the Madagascar Fauna Group
  • 2:30 pm Special enrichment activity for the lemur troop

The zoo will also have educational information available on lemurs and the island of Madagascar, home to over 100 species of lemurs.

Guests at Boo at the Zoo supported lemur conservation efforts when the made a donation and cast their ballots for their favorite lemur names. All donated funds from the contest will be sent to the Madagascar Fauna Group (MGF), a consortium of zoos, aquariums and botanical gardens working together to save biodiversity in Madagascar.

The keepers at the zoo suggested names that, for the most part, are Celtic and consistent with the names of most of the other troop members. They did, however, throw one Malagasy name into the mix.

It should be a fun day for your family at the Lake Superior Zoo.
