Wild Game Camera Captures Rare Photo of Eagle Attacking Deer [PHOTOS]

Courtesy Zoological Society of London and Wildlife Conservation Society

This is a one in a million shot.  These photos came from far east Russia where they have been setting up wildlife cameras to monitor engendered Amur Tigers in the Lazoovskii State Nature Preserve.   However, the camera caught something even more rare, an eagle attacking a deer.

The carcass of the deer was found nearby several weeks later when researchers trekked out to the location.

Although this occurrence is pretty rare, it has happened before.  Russian scientists have cited eagle attacks on coyotes, other deer, and even a brown bear cub in 2004.

The story was first published in the Journal of Raptor Research.
