Weekend Box Office: ‘Real Steel’ Knocks Out the Competition

A new release, the futuristic Hugh Jackman boxing tale ‘Real Steel,’ took in $27.3 million to become the top earner at the box office this weekend.
Second-place finisher ‘The Ides of March,’ George Clooney’s latest acting and directing project, made far less, selling $10.4 million in tickets. The former chart-topping family-friendly flick, ‘Dolphin Tale,’ moved down to third with $9.1 million.
Brad Pitt’s ‘Moneyball,’ itself another former number one, made $7.5 million in its third week of release, and the dark-humored ’50/50′ rounded out the top five with $5.5 million in revenues.
Here’s a list of the top 10 movies at the box office Friday through Sunday with estimated grosses, along with how much each movie has made since its release:
1. ‘Real Steel’ – $27.3 million, new release

7. ‘The Lion King 3D’ – $4.5 million, $85.9 million total
8. ‘Dream House’ – $4.5 million, $14.5 million total
9. ‘What’s Your Number?’ – $3 million, $10.3 million total
10. ‘Abduction’ – $2.9 million, $23.3 million total
