This weekend a group of us did quite a bit of wood cutting.  It was a beautiful weekend and this time of year is perfect.  It's cool enough to work hard, there aren't many bugs, and the ground has just dried up enough to be out cutting trees down.  A problem we've had in the past has been getting the logs back to camp to split them up.  Then we came up with this idea.

In the past we've dragged them out with chains, but then the logs get full of dirt which causes the chainsaw to get dull quicker.  So we decided to take an old beat up boat trailer and turn it into a wood skiff of sorts.

We covered the frame with wood decking.  We got used tires from a tire place real cheap. (we're just going down trails, no highway stuff.)  Then, I used scrap lumber we had lying around to build a makeshift rail system to keep the logs from rolling off.  I fastened a couple boards on the side to keep anything from getting caught up in the wheels.

It worked fantastic.  It made the process way easier of hauling logs around.  It cost nothing to us, except for a buck worth of screws.  Sure it isn't pretty, but it's not supposed to be.  It's redneck style.
