As you likely heard Thursday, someone unmoored both of the Vista Fleet's boats from their location near the William A. Irvin, setting them adrift in the harbor. The U.S. Coast Guard was called in as part of the effort to regain control of the unmanned boats, including preventing a potential collision with the John D. Leitch as it came under the Aerial Lift Bridge into the harbor.

A camera from the Duluth Harbor Cam website caught footage of the Coast Guard heading off the drifting Vista Queen as the John D. Leitch came in to the harbor. Thankfully it sounds like neither the Vista Queen nor the Vista Star were damaged while floating freely in the harbor.

WDIO is reporting that the Duluth Police have identified a man from the Twin Cities area as the individual who let the boats free early Thursday morning. The incident happened just minutes before 3 am on Thursday. The individual identified is a 47-year old man from Excelsior, MN and is reportedly the only person involved. He will face criminal charges. You can see surveillance footage of the incident here.
