Following an appearance in this year's NCAA Men's Hockey Championship, UMD coach Scott Sandelin was invited to kick off game 5 of the Minnesota Wild/St. Louis Blues series in St. Paul with the traditional "Let's Play Hockey!" call.

The win-or-go-home game 5 was an exciting one, with the Wild coming from a 3-1 deficit to tie the game in the third period and force overtime. Unfortunately, Magnus Paajarvi found the net for the Blues before anyone from the Wild could score, ending Minnesota's season with a 4 games to 1 final in the opening round of the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
