Just one more year for the UMD means hockey in the WCHA before they move on to the NCHC hockey conference in 2013. The Bulldogs first joined the WCHA back in 1965, which is 47 years of WCHA Hockey coming to a close for UMD this season.

Wednesday the WCHA Preseason Media poll was announced and the UMD Bulldogs were picked to finish 5th in the league in the poll. The Gophers picked to win the league this year, with North Dakota and Denver following behind.

Nick Bjugstad of the Gophers selected as the WCHA Preseason player of the year, UMD's Wade Bergman received votes for the WCHA all–defensive team, and Defenseman Andy Welinski of UMD received votes for preseason Rookie of the Year in the League.  25 members of the WCHA media took part in the poll.

The Bulldogs open their season on October 12th at home vs. Ohio State at Amsoil Arena and you can watch that series on My9.

The Bulldogs are also ranked 12th in the country in the USA Today / USA Hockey magazine preseason poll.  They were led last season by Jack Connolly who had 60 points on 20 goals and 40 assists and went on to win the 2012 Hobey Baker Award.

Last year the Bulldogs had a record of 25-10-6 and finished 2nd place in the WCHA.
