Two Workers Saved After Nearly Drowning In Stuck Elevator

Two construction workers took an elevator at a construction site in Staten Island on Sunday. The elevator became stuck, so they started pushing different buttons to try to get it to move. When they got to the basement button, the elevator started moving downwards. Great, right? The problem was the basement was severely flooded from heavy rain.Once they got to the bottom, the elevator hit the water and began to sink. Water started to pour in. They used a cell phone to call 911, but they didn’t know the address of the building they were in.
An hour later the firefighters found them. The water had reached up to their neck level, and they were standing on a work cart in the elevator. Can you imagine the nightmare? Luckily both men are doing fine. Read the full story from NYTIMES.COM.
