While I'm glad that my kids play a variety of sports at young ages, I'll always have a soft spot for baseball.  I have fond memories of playing catch and hitting baseballs with my dad and my friends.  As more kids get pushed into playing just one sport or two, baseball seems to be getting squeezed out.  That is why I'm a huge fan of the announcement made today by the Twins Community Fund.

Today they announced the creation of the Junior Twins grant program, which will make $125,000 in total grants available to youth baseball and softball organizations in 2016.  This will help further increase their participation numbers, and strengthen their leagues.

This is not only cash donations, but the Twins Community Fund will also provide selected leagues resources such as training for coaches and officials, youth clinics, marketing support, Twins tickets and other incentives.

I think every kid should play baseball of softball at least one summer to see if they enjoy it, and parents should be hands on in sharing the game.  Use the Play Ball! Minnesota link below to find leagues in your area as well as a lot other helpful resources.
