Despite all the hard work done by so many people in the community, we weren’t chosen for the high-speed fiber broadband project.  I suppose congratulations are in order for Kansas City, Kansas — but I bet your hockey team stinks!

Google announced on its official blog this morning that it will install its high-speed fiber broadband lines in Kansas City, Kan.

The company said that it signed a development agreement with the city and will be “working closely with local organizations, businesses and universities to bring a next-generation web experience to the community.”

On its blog, Google offered the following explanation for its choice:

“In selecting a city, our goal was to find a location where we could build efficiently, make an impact on the community and develop relationships with local government and community organizations. We’ve found this in Kansas City. We’ll be working closely with local organizations including the Kauffman Foundation, KCNext and the University of Kansas Medical Center to help develop the gigabit applications of the future.
